2018: Trophies, Growth, and Winds of Change
Happy New Years Eve to all of you, the real stars, from all of us at Gankstars!
What a crazy year 2018 had been… We:
left Vainglory, the game we were born in, after their franchise program was dissolved;
joined H1Z1 Pro League, opened a Las Vegas team house, and then throttled everything back as that franchise program also dissolved;
entered and left Brawlhalla (for now);
won the first-ever Critical Ops LAN, reinforcing our world champion title in the game;
signed an amazing PUBG Mobile roster, placing 2nd in North America and 7th globally;
signed a Fortnite Mobile roster so good that Ninja questioned one of our players’ ability and asked for proof (which he promptly received),
entered Paladins, traded our Paladins roster to Ninjas in Pyjamas, and eventually exited Paladins;
landed a great sponsor in GT Omega Racing;
brought on some incredible staff members! (improving social and other media in particular by a factor of one billion), and last but certainly not least,
signed our Fortnite PC roster and proved that we can win not just on mobile, but PC as well when Ceice won the $100K WSOE Fortnite tournament yesterday;
It wasn’t all buttery-smooth, though; 2018 was one of the most turbulent years so far. Navron and Luke had to seek other opportunities due to personal situations. The closing of H1Z1 Pro League left a painful bruise. The leaving of Vainglory, Paladins, and Critical Ops was very difficult, as we appreciate those fans so, so much. In fact, we’re no longer in any of the games that we were in at the end of previous year.
We may have went from winning in front of 3,000-5,000 concurrent viewers to winning in front of 50,000+ concurrent viewers, but major moves between the titles in such a short time always take a short-term toll when you have an existing fanbase. For all of you who stuck with us through this period of evolution - THANK YOU!!
In the end, just in time for New Year’s, we saw our own Ceice win a major tournament in front of 50,000 concurrent viewers. We could not have asked for a better end to this crazy, crazy year, and we can’t wait to see what awaits us in 2019.
Never give up, and always remember that you’re a star in your own way no matter what anyone says. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey. We wish you an amazing 2019 full of growth and happiness, and have but one wish - that we all have more opportunities to meet each other in person!
